A poorly insulated door affects both the sustainability, and the energy efficiency of your business. Luckily, it is a problem that can be easily solved. The solution is a broken cold bridge. But what exactly is that?
With greater demands for insulation and sharper focus on sustainability, energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important, in both modern building design and successful business performance.
However, many operations suffer due to weak points in the insulation of their buildings. This structural weakness is known as a thermal or cold bridge. Found in many aspects of architecture and building construction, from concrete to metal or wood-framed buildings, cold bridges are also a common problem for uninsulated industrial doors and entrance solutions.
Because it is often impractical to eliminate all cold bridges, it makes more sense to reduce thermal bridging to an acceptable level. One way to do this involves applying a thermal break into the design of the door. And that’s exactly what we do.
A thermal break is the very opposite of a cold bridge. How it works is relatively simple. In the case of our insulated overhead sectional doors, we ‘break’ the aluminum frame into two separate interior and exterior pieces by inserting an element of low thermal conductivity.
Creating a thermal barrier against heat loss in this way prevents the flow of energy between the two, thus reducing temperature transfer. A broken cold bridge solution saves energy, reduces costs, and also dramatically minimizes interior condensation - essential for businesses which rely on product visibility, such as car showrooms or workshops.
We have recently added two new overhead sectional doors to the ASSA ABLOY family. Both offer the same level of quality you expect from us, but now with increased insulation.
This broken cold bridge solution not only reduces heat loss and unwanted costs due to poor insulation, but also helps future-proof businesses as they work towards a more sustainable, energy-efficient future.
