South Africa’s largest iron ore mine, Sishen Mine, needed safe, reliable, rugged doors for its repair facility for hauling trucks. Hangar doors from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems were chosen for their ability to handle the tough conditions.

Sishen Mine's "Life of Mine" project involved building facilities for repair and maintain of their "Huge Monsters" as the hauling trucks are called. As with many mining environments, the entrance solution has to withstand extremely high temperatures and high wind speeds that create a significant amount of airborne dust, and therefore also needs very good sealing qualities.

Additional requirements on the doors were reliability and minimum maintenance need. The hangar doors should be safe, easy to operate and help keep a clean environment.

Increasing safety, decreasing costs

The hangar doors provided by ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems are robust and rugged enough to handle the extreme conditions of the mine, keeping down-time to a minimum. They provide a safe and comfortable working environment, keeping critical components dust free, ensuring better conditions to repair and service the haul trucks. They also reduce the trucks' overall break-down turnaround time.
