The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) utilizes planned, proactive maintenance to minimize downtime, optimize efficiency and to facilitate search and rescue operations.
The RNLI, UK, required a national service partner to support their proactive approach to door maintenance at their lifeboat stations across Scotland. Coastal locations, with their combination of high winds and saltwater corrosion, are among the toughest environments for steel shutters and doors. Proactive door maintenance is an important tool to prevent breakdowns and reduce downtime.
Targeting the fastest possible response times for search and rescue operations, lifeboats must launch within 5 minutes of a request to launch. Problems with door operation might delay this process and could potentially be life-threatening.
ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is the chosen partner for nationwide service, maintenance, and modernization contract at all RNLI locations. The mutual goal is "zero callback", meaning that potential problems are resolved at the first visit. Engineers carry a comprehensive stock of spare parts, to facilitate wear and tear replacements discovered at any visit.
Dedicated account management provides support and schedules visits to remote parts in advance. As part of the agreement, a report is written for every visit, and findings are presented in an easy-to-read format, designed specifically to the requirements of the customer.
