Our SEC Team recaps their main takeaways from the 2023 ISC West Tradeshow
Just last month, more than 27,000 security and public safety professionals gathered in Las Vegas, NV for the 2023 International Security Conference – otherwise known as ISC West.
Those who attended the show got the chance to explore the newest solutions in the security industry. Keeping people safe and facilities secure is what it’s all about.
Let's just say, sometimes what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. We spoke to our Security Entrance Control team to find out the emerging trends at ISC West, and here’s what we learned:
Unsurprisingly, weapons detection was top of mind for attendees. Ballistics resistance and biometrics were also hot topics. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
1. Easy customer experience
Staff and customers should feel welcome. Threats should not. That’s why many security professionals are showing interest in touchless, hands-free access control technology.
Paul Benne is CEO of Sentinel Consulting and has been in the security industry for over 20 years. He commented, “When it comes to entrance control systems and portals that invite people into a space, there’s a lot that has to be correct. The customer’s main drive is their customer’s experience. When there’s a difficulty in that process, it’s a red light. It’s nice to see that experience being embedded into the product that ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is offering.”
One example is speed gates, which can be equipped with facial recognition, elevator destination dispatch, and even wave plates. These solutions provide ease of access for approved personnel – and approved personnel only.
2. Comprehensive turnkey solutions
Another emerging trend from ISC West 2023 is an increased desire for turnkey installed SEC solutions from a single company.
Choosing, installing, and maintaining security systems is a lot to juggle. It can be a headache especially for facilities owners and managers who already have a lot on their plates. It’s no surprise that turnkey approaches to security are in higher demand than ever.
Traditionally, a turnkey solution is a product that is ready for use, with little to no coordination required from the end user. Yes, every facility is different and has unique needs, and customers require customized solutions. But ideally, these solutions should be expertly delivered by the service provider from start to finish.
For example, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems provides project planning, architectural support, and expert installation for all our SEC products. Plus, we have 24/7 AAADM-certified service technicians to provide service any time an issue arises.
3. Security is not just for huge corporations
The last trend that emerged at ISC West 2023 is a broader range of organizations seeking security solutions.
Historically, class-A buildings were the primary seekers of access control. Now, more and more small and mid-sized organizations are desiring access control – and finding the budget for it.
Recapping the show, Security Entrance Control BDM Mike McGovern said, “Lots of security end-users, integrators, security consultants and engineers came by to learn more about the latest offering from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems. Booth visitors commented on the tremendous added value of the turnkey installed security entrance control approach. Many of our visitors were also keenly interested in learning what ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is doing in the areas of hands-free security access, and biometrics (i.e.; facial recognition) and features like vandal resistant automatic sliding doors, burglar resistant products. In summary, the security community gave ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems a big ‘thumbs up” for our Security Entrance Control offering!”
