The Power of Giving Thanks

For Americans, November is the month of Thanksgiving – a holiday where we gather our loved ones, enjoy delicious food, and take time to focus on the things we’re grateful for.

But here at ASSA ABLOY, we believe gratefulness should never be limited to one day of the year. We also believe gratitude is more than just good manners.

The science of gratefulness is powerful. A simple “thank you” is proven to strengthen relationships, both personal and professional. Studies suggest that practicing gratitude can also improve your mental health. Not to mention we’ve all heard the saying: what goes around comes around. All in all, giving thanks is a real mood booster – for yourself and for those around you.

Recently, we were reminded of the power of thankfulness in a very personal way. The Teacher’s Desk, a non-profit store in NY, was in urgent need of an automatic door at their facility. The store serves thousands of teachers each year, allowing them to shop for free on behalf of students in need.

Before ASSA ABLOY, The Teacher’s Desk was using a garage door for their curbside operations, which was causing challenges for their volunteers. We were honoured to able to offer a solution by giving the Teacher’s Desk a beautiful new automatic door.

In the weeks following, our mailbox was flooded with hand-written cards, thanking us for our contribution to the Teacher’s Desk. We received heartfelt letters from teachers and their students, expressing their gratitude for the door and for the supplies that the Teacher’s Desk provides. It was through these letters that we saw the profound impact that the Teacher’s Desk has on real people in their community.

The outpouring of thankfulness we received from the Teacher’s Desk, its volunteers and its teachers was deeply moving – and also inspiring.
