Automated entryways help encourage independent living for the physically challenged at Champions Place – a one-of-a-kind facility
Champions Place is the first of its kind. It is a shared living residence for young adults with physical disabilities. It was built in Alpharetta, Georgia by Champions Community Foundation (CCF), a Johns Creek nonprofit that serves more than 80 disabled individuals aged 18-35.
The suite-style apartment model offers an incredible opportunity for these young adults, helping them to lead independent and productive lives and experience life to its fullest. It offers sixteen suites sectioned into quads with common areas and accessible kitchenettes, along with a main living room, private dining room, and accessible main kitchen to accommodate family-style dinners and large group functions.
Being that Champions Place is the first of its kind, the architecture and construction of the building had to meet specific needs to support the mission of the residence. It’s no surprise that easy accessibility was top of mind when designing the building.
Challenge
The space had to be warm, inviting, comfortable and most of all accessible for its residents. Automated, barrier-free doors that provided easy access while also providing building security were a must. The entryways had to provide:
Solution
In close partnership with Champions Place, ASSA ABLOY was able to supply a total of 23 automatic doors which consisted of 3 – SL500 sliding doors and 20- SW200i swing door systems. These automatic doors are completely integrated with the access control system and outfitted with wave plate technology for a touchless and secure experience. The automatic doors supply customizable and barrier-free access to public spaces such as main areas and restrooms, as well as private spaces, such as bedroom areas, throughout the entire facility. The sliding doors allow for natural light to show through the glass panels and light up the areas providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for all who visit or live in the residence. Residents of Champions Place will be able to safely, easily, and most importantly independently move throughout their home.
